Thanh Chương District · Nghệ An Province · North Central Coast, Vietnam

18°42′N · 105°18′E · 15–100 m above sea level · Red laterite soil along the Lam River

Elevation

15–100 m river-valley slopes and terraces along the Lam River — well-drained fields suited to high-yield cassava cultivation.

Climate

Tropical monsoon — hot humid summer (May–Sep) drives tuber growth; dry cool harvest (Oct–Mar) for efficient sun-drying.

Soil Type

Red laterite riverine soil, well-drained with balanced mineral content — supports high starch accumulation in the tuber.

Thanh Chương is Nghệ An's best-known cassava district — a river-valley belt along the Lam River that has supplied Vietnam's starch and feed export trade for over two decades. Tubers are harvested at 9–11 months for peak starch content, then peeled, sliced, and dried — either sun-dried on concrete yards during the dry season or machine-dried year-round — to a final moisture below 14%. This moisture threshold is critical: below it, chips resist mold during 15–30 day sea transit to India, China, Indonesia, and Taiwan. Every batch is screened for foreign matter, mold, and pest damage before baling into 50 kg PP bags or bulk loading, giving buyers the consistent, shelf-stable supply their production planning depends on.
